OCWI consists of writers experienced in all genres, published, getting published, or new to the literary arts. Each month we invite speakers from different aspects of writing — creating, publishing, marketing, and submitting to agents.
Since 1914, OCWI has contributed to literary achievement in Oklahoma and inspired the creative talent of its members. We desire to give fellow writers, of all ages and ability, a place to find support and companionship.
OCWI is an affiliate of Oklahoma Writers' Federation, Inc. (OWFI).
Guests are welcome at meetings which are held on the third Saturday of each month from 10:15 am to 11:30 am

Fantasy Worldbuilding
The Fantasy Genre isn't just swords, magic, and dragons. It's an escape from reality that allows you to ask big moral questions through invented worlds. In this talk, Jeff covers the history of the genre and a brief overview of its subgenres. He then offers a simple method for building a world that weaves your story question into its very fabric. From geography and culture to politics and plot. Expect examples from Tolkien to Conan, a few worldbuilding pitfalls to avoid, and a short writing exercise if time allows.
